1. Overview

This policy explains what information we collect when you use Animater, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. Animater is a desktop app that runs on your own machine and connects to an AI agent you already use, so a lot of your activity never reaches our servers. We respect your privacy and aim to be transparent about what does.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information — your name and email address when you sign up
  • Payment information — processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card numbers or bank details.
  • Usage data — credits consumed, features used, and general usage patterns to help us improve the service
  • Session diagnostics — records of AI-assistant activity in the editor (your prompts, the actions and animation code the assistant produced, and error details) so we can fix problems and improve output quality

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the Animater service
  • Process your subscription payments
  • Send you important updates about your account or the service
  • Improve and develop new features
  • Prevent abuse and maintain security

We don't sell your personal information to third parties. We don't send marketing emails unless you opt in.

4. Your AI Agent (Bring Your Own)

Animater works by connecting to an AI coding agent you already use — such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor — running under your own account on your own machine.

  • Your prompts go to your agent's provider, not us — when you ask your agent to build or edit a video, your prompts and the agent's replies are sent directly from your machine to that agent and its AI provider (for example, Anthropic or OpenAI) under your own account and that provider's privacy policy. The material you then work with — captured pages, your scenes, and generated media — is stored on our servers to provide the service (see sections 5 and 6).
  • We never handle your keys — Animater does not receive or store your agent's API keys or credentials.
  • We don't keep a copy of the exchange — the conversation between you and your agent isn't routed through or stored by us.

5. Capturing Pages & Designs

To animate a real product, Animater can capture a web page or a Figma design and turn it into a project:

  • Website capture — when you point Animater at a URL, our servers load that page (its text, images, and layout structure) and convert it into an animation project. We only capture the specific page you ask us to.
  • Chrome extension (optional) — for pages that need it, an optional browser extension can capture the page you're viewing and send it to our servers. It only sends data when you explicitly click "Capture" — it doesn't run in the background or collect your browsing history.
  • Figma plugin — the Figma plugin reads the design elements you select and sends them to our servers in the same way.
  • Temporary import codes — a short-lived, single-use code links a capture to your account and expires within minutes.

6. Data on Your Device

Because Animater runs on your computer, your projects, scenes, and exported videos are created and stored locally on your machine. Some features — such as page capture and certain rendering — use our servers, but your working files stay on your device unless you choose to export or sync them. The app also periodically checks for updates, which involves a simple version request to our servers.

7. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate Animater. Each has their own privacy practices:

  • Your AI agent's provider (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI) — processes the prompts and content you send through your own agent, under your account
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Convex — database and backend infrastructure
  • Authentication provider — secure sign-in

8. Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Data stored locally on your device is under your control — you can delete it from your machine at any time. If you want the data we hold deleted, contact us and we'll process your request within 30 days.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a portable format

10. Cookies

We use minimal, functional cookies for authentication and user preferences. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.

11. Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure authentication. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children

Animater is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the service or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
